Who We Are. Why We Lead.

SABLAC is a community of self-advocates working together to create a more just, inclusive, and empowered future.

Who We Are

SABLAC is a self-advocacy nonprofit led by people with disabilities, empowering voices and building community.

The Self-Advocacy Board of Los Angeles County (SABLAC) is a nonprofit organization led by individuals with developmental and physical disabilities who believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to speak up, be heard, and shape their own lives.

Since 1988, SABLAC has been building a stronger, more connected self-advocacy community across Los Angeles County.

In 1999, SABLAC became an official nonprofit organization, recognized as a 501(c)(3), to continue expanding its impact and supporting future leaders in the disability rights movement.

We are proud to be part of the broader network of advocacy groups supported by the State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD), while maintaining our own independent voice and vision.

Our Purpose

At SABLAC, we exist to:

  • Teach individuals about their rights and responsibilities

  • Support the formation of new self-advocacy groups

  • Promote leadership development among individuals with disabilities

  • Provide a welcoming space for connection, learning, and collective action

Self-advocacy means speaking up for ourselves, making informed decisions, solving problems independently, and building a future rooted in dignity and respect.

Understanding Your Challenges

Nonprofit organizations often face:

  • Sudden Leadership Vacancies: Unexpected departures can leave organizations scrambling to maintain continuity.

  • Lack of Succession Planning: Without a clear plan, transitions can lead to confusion and misaligned priorities.

  • Operational Instability: Leadership gaps can disrupt daily operations and hinder decision-making.

  • Stakeholder Concerns: Donors, staff, and beneficiaries may lose confidence during periods of uncertainty

We recognize these pain points and are committed to providing solutions that address them head-on.

Our Approach: Prepare.
Pivot. Thrive.

Our proven model ensures that your organization not only navigates the transition but emerges stronger:
